Supporting Inclusion

Currently in Fife there are over 2200 people registered as blind or partially sighted. 84% are over the age of 50.  Research tells us that 43% of those we know about, live alone and 10% describe themselves as being isolated.

Research findings indicate that social support is a human necessity.  People become socially isolated for many reasons.  Age related sight loss is increasing as a consequence of us all living longer and is a major cause of isolation.

Our aim is to try and identify the factors, which affect social isolation, and to look at ways of reducing loneliness for Visually Impaired People.
